day 315…

Off with year 8 to Exeter Mosque today.  Brilliant to take our lovely pupils to a place where I imagine very few have ever visited – and I don’t just mean in Exeter.

I’ve loved teaching this unit on Islam, helping pupils to see the global picture about a religion that is so often cast as being aggressive and paranoid by much of what they see in the media.  As far as I’m concerned this role alone justifies the existence of RE in the curriculum.   Challenging stereotypes and provoking deeper engagement with the unknown.  Fantastic stuff…

Back to the mosque – lovely, warm welcome and a real privilege to hear the muezzin lead the call to prayer and witness the midday prayer.  Quite something to see first hand a group of devoted followers going through the prayer routine.  Puts Christian prayer to shame!
