re: future…

So, earlier today I ‘facebooked’ a status that said something about how I’m currently pondering the future.  If you know me well, you’ll know that in itself is not a particularly odd thing.  I’m one of those people who like’s to have their finger in the wind, figuring out which direction it’s blowing.  I love the here and now, but am also really interested in what might come next.

So, Kay and I have spent a lot of time recently thinking about what the future may look like for us as a little family, and in particular about some of the things that we feel God might be saying to us.  Here’s a few things we’ve been prompted by:

  • becoming a ‘family’ – and the new network of people that this has introduced us to…
  • being part of specific communities – K with her group of Mums who meet weekly and hang out…being community, and my proto-network, ‘Dad Club’ – still very much in its infancy…
  • space afforded particularly to K because of maternity leave which has led to a lot of the exciting stuff above, and even some more creative things beyond this…
  • thoughts on the Acts 2 stuff about real community – church on Sunday evening had a preach on this very passage, which builds on some of my earlier thinking about community as expressed through this blog…
  • conversations with a new friend about what might be a new way (at least for us!) to explore faith with a specifc community of people…
  • thinking about how we grow some kind of community of faith at school…
  • perhaps the largest – promptings that we’re feeling about actually living in community with others…either by having a big house that we open to others or looking for people to come and be part of this vision from the start…

As you can see – lots seems to be happening.  We thought that Sephi’s arrival would mean a ‘sitting back’ in our desire to explore God’s mission for us…but instead it seems that she’s pushing us forward instead!  We shouldn’t be surprised…Josephine is a Hebrew name which means ‘God will expand’!

What we do know is that this isn’t about me changing jobs (again!) at the moment…or moving on from the people we’re in pilgrimage with (ENC).  We’re just open to whatever the Spirit might be saying to us.  And really excited.

Thing is…there are a few big things linked in…about living in community…about how we could ever afford to do something like this.  This isn’t within our means – but it’s certainly not outside of God’s, if you know what I mean.

I remain thoroughly convinced that God calls his people to be living, vibrant examples of the Kingdom community that he means to instigate as exemplified through the life and teaching of Jesus.  That for us may mean a literal community life – for the whole church that means being bearers of hope – not simply offering ‘golden tickets’ to heaven.

But at the moment…we’re still thinking through a lot of this…your prayers would be very much appreciated…and any thoughts as well.  If you think you’re hearing something ‘specific’ about this we’d love to hear from you!

We’ll keep you posted – it feels like this is something in the pipeline, but not necssarily too far away…
