…no, I’m not attempting to sell you any little blue pills! The other day I was reading t’bible and came across the following:
So this is my prayer: that your love will flourish and that you will not only love much but well. Learn to love appropriately. You need to use your head and test your feelings so that your love is sincere and intelligent, not sentimental gush. Live a lover’s life, circumspect and exemplary, a life Jesus will be proud of: bountiful in fruits from the soul, making Jesus Christ attractive to all, getting everyone involved in the glory and praise of God. (Phil 1v9-11)
Hows about that? Live a lover’s life…in other words, love lavishly. Love without limits. Love even when it hurts, even when we get hurt right back, when there’s no love in the air. Not just polite interest, but passionate, deep, caring love for every person that we come into contact with.
Now, I’m not advocating a ‘free love’ society or anything crazy like that. This moves beyond sex into what true love is. Sacrificial, selfless. Transformational. If we followers of Jesus were known for loving people rather than for judging them what do you think this world might look like by now? Let’s reclaim love for what it’s all about. Not a cheap, oft thrown away word that echoes with emptiness, but a word that transmits the beauty of the God we serve.
Ready for a love revolution?
…(by the way…I feel like I’m back!)
